Brazilian Carnival Music
Date
August 2023 - current
Location
Sweden, Örebro and more
Sabugueiro is a percussion group founded by Fred Warnby, playing Brazilian rhythms and performing the annual carnival parade in Örebro and other cities, alongside separate shows and club gigs. The birth of Sabugueiro (which translates to Elderflower) came about in 2023 with the first carnival performance, after Fred had been leading workshops in Brazilian rhythms for a group of percussionists during some time.
What makes Sabugueiro so unique is the improvisational elements in the street performances, all including drums, vocals, horn & wind section and even amplified bass guitars and synthesizers into the parade. This combination is guaranteed to bring the highest of energies to the event, with an extreme degree of musical extraversion in an overly colourful extravaganza. Having already paraded in a snow storm, Sabugueiro is ready to take on any weather to fill your event with powerful music.
Fred's strong relationship to Brazil and its phenomenal rhythms and music started in 2017 when he was to perform Brazilian rhythms live together with Brazilian musicians living in Sweden at the time. Two years later, in 2019, Fred moved to Rio de Janeiro for one full year of university studies, living and playing together with local musicians and falling in love with the country's culture and music. Since then the exchange has continued with several collaborations in both Sweden and Brazil, developing the musical projects every year.
